SAT
Siemens Audiological Engineering Group as part of Siemens Medical Solutions is a leading manufacturer of hearing instruments worldwide. Having headquarters in Erlangen, Germany, with 24 subsidiaries around the world and approximately 3800 employees, the company offers a wide range of innovative products, solutions and services to hearing care professionals worldwide. Among its innovative products, the company designs and manufactures a variety of digital hearing instruments in all styles to improve the quality of life for individuals with hearing loss.
The Signal Processing Group, which will host a Early Stage Researcher, offers years of experience in audio signal processing with an established group of competent and experienced researchers. They developed a large part of Siemens hearing aid innovations such as the three-microphone directional technology, binaural acoustic environment classification and transient noise reduction as part of a complete set of noise reduction algorithms. These algorithms are developed with state-of-the art signal processing tools. Internal development of such tools allows real-time processing of algorithms which are integrated and tested with hearing aid hardware. Real-time processing is therefore possible at all stages of algorithm development as well as in floating and in fixed-point arithmetic. Test laboratories and anechoic chambers provide the necessary specific acoustic environments for the intensive testing of all developments, including evaluation with hearing impaired subjects. The signal processing group is integrated in the large R&D department of the Siemens Audiological Engineering Group where all functions of hearing aid development are represented.
